The meeting that had previously been scheduled for 14th November at 10am has now been postponed to the New Year due to recent events. Further updates to the new date and time will be made in due course.

to hear from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) regarding
‘Industrial Hemp: steps for exploiting the economic and social potentials’

In this meeting we will be hearing from Marco Fugazza, Economic Affairs Officer of UNCTAD. Marco will be detailing the findings of his recent report entitled ‘Industrial hemp: insights from the special issue of the commodity-at-a-glance series’ – a report originally delivered to a workshop on industrial hemp held on 18 January 2023 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.
While the full report details the hemp plant’s botanical and regulatory definitions and taxonomy and the general uses of industrial hemp, this talk will be focused on the steps that both developing and non-developing countries can take to exploit the hemp plant’s economic and social potentials.
Marco’s visit will also be an opportunity for the APPG to discuss its alignment with the goals of UNCTAD regarding industrial hemp, especially in relation to food and the environment, and also the wider context around hemp and its relevance to so many verticals and key issues, not least the UKs Net Zero commitment.
